Species

The plants being offered in this section have been cultivated by seeds or divisions from our collection plants. The majority of these plants will thrive under warm to intermediate conditions and have varying blooming seasons, which we have attempted to note in their descriptions. For a true sense of nature, try species for their grace and wonderful link to lush jungles and craggy mountainsides.

	Neof. falcata 'White Flamingo' AM/.AOS Indigenous to Japan, China, and Korea, this variety has exceptionally larger flowers that the typical Neofinetia. It is also fragrant! 	Bulb. carunculatum 'Pauwela Elf' These are divisions of our mother plant which comes from the Philippines. It flowers during the summer through fall seasons, with flowers appearing sequentially over a period of several months, so don't cut the spikes off until they turn completely dry! 	Bulb. graveolens These are indigenous to New Guinea and Australia, and forms an attractive umbel of flowers during the summer months. These are divisions of our mother plant in 5" pots. 	Epi. schweinfurthianum This species occurs in San Salvador and Guatemala and flowers during the late summer/early fall season for us. The flowers are small but very attractively colored, with pink on the back of the sepals and petals, and a reddish tint on the front portion. The lip is also pink, and the contrasting colors and the amount of flowers that appear on the branching inflorescence make a definite statement! 	Den. macrophyllum Found throughout the Pacific Islands such as New Guinea, Samoa and Fiji, to name a few of its home, its flowers are known for its longevity, being hairy, spotted, and striped all at once! 	Encyclia suaveolens Found in Mexico, these love the hot to intermediate temperatures. Flowers are mahogany-green with a white lip that has a touch of pink. Available in 2.5" pots. 	E. naranjapatensis Native to Ecuador, this species will thrive under hot to intermediate conditions. Fragrant flowers are borne on an inflorescence that is taller than 2 feet on mature plants. 	Encyclia alata var. alba 'Lemon Mist' HCC/AOS x self A very fragrant species that is native to Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, it will produce branching inflorescences when the plant is mature, resulting in a stunning specimen plant. These are now in 2" pots and will do well either mounted or in a basket to provide lots of air for its roots. 	Paph. delenatii Originally from Vietnam, this species has been around for some time now, with the first plant being awarded in 1957. 	Encyclia patens Native to Brazil, this species will produce flowers that are green to chartreuse, with a white lip marked with purple. 	Den. spectabile frm. flavus x sib The typical Den. spectabile is found in New Guinea. Our last selfing of our mother plant produced 4 plants of this variety, so we made this sibling cross to produce more! This form does not grow as vigorously, nor does it attain the same size as its typical form, but it gets covered with flowers several times a year for us. They need lots of filtered light and good air circulation to thrive. Available in 3.5" pots. 	Encyclia ionophlebia (syn. Prosthechea) Endemic to Panama and Costa Rica, this species produces clusters of green flowers with strong striping in their lips. 	Den. bracteosum var. alba x Den. bracteosum This is a cross between the white (alba) form and the type, or pink, form of this species. 	Psh. cochleata 'Valley Isle' x self Our mother plant has very large flowers for this species, which comes from the Bahamas, Costa Rice, and Colombia, to name a few of its exotic homes. 	Oerstedella centradenia Found in many countries including Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras and Mexico, these are actually small plants that produce new growths on top of old growths, blooming their hearts out during the spring season. You can control their height just by picking off the new growth at the top of the plant. Available in 2.5" pots. Phal. violacea)) Endemic to Borneo, this species lends its sweet fragrance to its progeny when used in hybridizing.The star-shaped flowers have a heavy substance, resulting in a long-lasting flower. 	Den. oligophyllum This species is native to Vietnam and Thailand, thriving in the tropical hot to intermediate conditions. 	Den. platycaulon x self Commonly known as the "compressed" dendrobium, its pseudobulbs are flattened and will produce clusters of creamy colored flowers several times during the year for us. 	Den. secundum Native to parts of Southeast Asia, this species is commonly known as the "toothbrush orchid" due to the way the flowers line up on the inflorescence. This is the "type", or normal form of the species, and has pink flowers. At one time it was easily found in greenhouses, and the alba form was rare. 	Eurychone rothschildiana A native of Africa, this exotic species is a small plant, producing its short inflorescences under its leaves. It looks similar to a phalaenopsis plant, but the leaves are smaller and has more substance. Grow this one with shade, water well, and keep it warm. Available in 2.5" pots.
